Circulation attritor by Union Process assists customers in food processing

Union Process (UP) is a leading manufacturer of grinding equipment, such as its innovative attritors, available in Canada through Firing Industries. One field in which UP has ample experience is the confection industry, for which the company has produced specific machines – like the Q-2 circulation attritor.

This laboratory-sized circulation attritor by UP is a wet grinding mill designed with the chocolate industry in mind, both domestic and international. The manufacturer particularly recommends it for processing chocolate coating for ice cream.

The Q-2 is powered by a five-horsepower motor with a variable-speed drive, which is installed in a NEMA-4X/12 wash-down duty enclosure. The device also has a tachometer, stainless steel holding tank with an anchor stirrer, and high-speed mixer. The holding tank has a gross volume of 2.6 gallons and is jacketed for cooling; it can be lined with alumina, zirconium oxide, silicon nitride, silicon carbide, food-grade rubber, polyurethane, or Tefzel. For complete metal-free systems, the tank can be coated with HALAR or nylon.

Also available for this circulation attritor are cover seals for a fully sealed system. The agitator arms can be stainless steel, plastic, tungsten carbide, or zirconium oxide. The module is programmed to display agitator rotation speed, and users can toggle it to display motor power and AMPs. The premix system has a stainless steel, 25-gallon premix/processing tank with an anchor stirrer and mixer, plus a sanitary jacketed pump with stainless steel housing and a reversible one-horsepower variable speed drive. The system includes all necessary plumbing.

This device also has complete slurry lines (in stainless steel or plastic) with valve and quick disconnects, and users can add special instrumentation if they so choose.

The Q-2 is one of many UP attritors that Firing Industries can offer. The inventor and developer of attritor technology, UP has been developing and building this equipment since 1946, for a wide variety of applications. Today, the company is known globally as a top manufacturer of devices for particle-size reduction and dispersing, as well as grinding media.
