Piab introduces WIP function in piFLOW®p conveyors: Functionality facelift for food & pharma favorite
Give your conveying system a functionality facelift! Wet-In-Place (WIP) spray nozzles are now available for retrofitting in existing piFLOW®p systems or for inclusion in new systems featuring the popular food and pharma conveyors. Here you will learn more about WIP and other functionality extensions on offer.
Piab’s piFLOW®p vacuum conveyors are set to become even more popular among food and pharma manufacturers as the company expands the line’s functionality through the introduction of Wet-In-Place (WIP) spray nozzles that will help to guarantee safer working environments for processing staff. The option of adding WIP functionality to the company’s vacuum-based conveying systems for food and pharma materials enables manufacturers to strengthen their compliance with the most stringent health and safety standards.
Wetting the leftovers
By spraying water on food or pharmaceutical materials left in the conveyor, the WIP nozzles ensure that all leftover dust stays where it is and stops it from escaping into the air where it can be inhaled by processing staff during maintenance or cleaning procedures. Wetting potentially harmful leftover materials prior to the equipment being opened will guarantee that any such dust stays Wet-In-Place until it can be safely removed.
For maximum performance and coverage, and in order to make sure that as much material as possible is captured as quickly as possible, up to three WIP modules can be fitted to each conveyor.
Easy to retrofit
To help customers achieve optimal WIP performance for specific applications, two optional WIP module positions, one immediately below the middle section of the conveyor and one below the conveyor’s bottom valve, are offered in addition to the standard position at the top of the conveyor. Optional inlet valves can also be fitted at each site.
The configurable design of the piFLOW®p conveyors also allows for simple retrofitting of WIP units in existing conveying systems. This offers manufacturers the flexibility to upgrade or change their food or pharma production lines, and at the same time assure the best possible working conditions in their plants.
P is for premium
The piFLOW®p line of vacuum conveyors is Piab’s premium grade conveyors. With over 30 years of experience of powder and granules transfer through vacuum conveying, the company offers tried and tested conveying solutions for numerous applications. The company’s conveyors come in different sizes and grades, and can handle particle sizes from 0.5 micron. The premium piFLOW®p systems can operate over conveying distances of up to 50 metres.
Assembled from a modular programme of parts and components, the piFLOW®p conveyors are easy to modify for different requirements, and targets the most demanding users, such as the food and the pharmaceutical industry. It also makes sense to use this conveyor when high throughput performance is required with a small footprint. It offers a very wide capacity range – from 0.5 tons per hour to 14 tons per hour.
Easy-to-replace ultrafine filters
The configurable and modular design offers not only flexibility, but also makes the conveying systems easy to clean and maintain. All filters are easy to clean or replace, and are of the highest standard available.
Piab’s Ultra Low Penetration Air (ULPA, class U15-17) filters provide greater filtration than High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters, and are offered as standard accessories for piFLOW®p.
Designed for COAX®
Piab’s piFLOW®p conveyors were specifically designed to be used with the company’s specialist vacuum pumps. Based on the patented COAX® technology, the multistage ejectors are driven by compressed air that is forced through several nozzles, building up a vacuum. The technology is compact and lightweight, allowing miniaturised ejector cartridges to be fitted very near to where the vacuum is needed in an energy-efficient, decentralised system, characterised by high initial flow.
For customers with limited access to compressed air, a complete range of electro mechanical vacuum pumps of dry rotary vane type is available.
New optional control unit
A newly introduced optional control unit also offers simplified implementation of additional control functions. The control unit features a user-friendly touch screen, where users choose the settings for functions such as emptying and suction times, fluidisation end more.
The microcomputer-based electrical control unit can be connected to an overarching programmable logic controller (PLC) system used to control the customer’s entire manufacturing process.
Perfectly matching standards
The piFLOW®p conveyors for powder and bulk materials are designed to perfectly match the stringent demands for operational safety and hygiene within the food and pharmaceutical industries. Made from materials that comply with the US FDA and EU 1935/2004 regulations, Piab’s conveyors can be used to safely transport large volumes of powder/bulk materials, and their advanced technology will guarantee segregation-free conveying. Maximising the safety of the processing staff, piFLOW®p is available in ATEX dust and gas approved designs, in which all plastic or rubber parts, including filters and seals, are made of antistatic nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR).
