With our main TRIBO line consisting of 8 different models plus additional options it can appear to be a complicated process to decide which one is correct for your application. In this article we thought it would be good to review some of the differences and help you understand why we have different models. Be assured that you need not feel intimidated by the selection of models we offer.
Common capabilities of all TRIBO.dsp units
All TRIBO.dsp units at the core contain the same triboelectric detection technology. They all have the same level of sensitivity, able to detect particle concentrations down to 0.000002 gr/dscf . They all detect the same DC/AC spectrum of triboelectric effect from the electrically isolated probe and output it in a raw pico amp signal. All units can be used in conjunction with our special applications: bag leak detection systems, dust emissions monitoring, flow/no flow, more flow/less flow, ambient dust monitoring, etc.

Outputs and Networking Differences
The major difference between units involve the kind of output desired and network capabilities.
Some facilities only want a relay alarm for when emissions rise over a certain level (what we call red light/green light functionality). This may be located on the unit itself, or routed back to a control room or PLC.
At other facilities, the operators want to know just the raw pico amps coming from the unit while others want it correlated with a known sample to determine their exact particulate emissions levels.
Still other systems are made up of multiple probes linked together. These systems may include multiple fugitive dust monitors throughout a facility or a series of units attached to individual compartments on a multi-compartment dust collector (for pinpointing leaking filters to a given compartment and row).
Finally, output options vary between facilities. Our options include a common 4-20 mA signal, Modbus, Ethernet, or a simple relay for alarms (red light/green light)
So lets look at our most popular TRIBO units and review the differences.
The TRIBO U3200 is great for simple applications where a simple alarm is needed. The data can be transmitted to a nearby controller or sent back to the control room. Broken bag detection, fugitive dust monitoring, etc. It provides two independent SPDT relay contacts for alarm indications with selectable fail-safe mode
When installed, the U3200 monitors the process under normal operating conditions to establish a baseline. The U3200 detects changing signal levels relative to the normal operational baseline. Dual relays allow for two levels of warnings or indications which can be set for either high or low threshold exceedance, depending on the application.
The TRIBO U3400 is wired directly to PLC’s, data loggers, or any control device capable of simultaneously providing 24V loop power while receiving the continuous 4-20 mA signal, such as TRIBO.prevent, a dual-level alarm panel with local display. The TRIBO.dsp U3400 is often the most suitable and economical choice for large multiple point bag leak detection applications. It is easily installed and connected to PLC’s or data hubs for plant wide, data management purposes.
Very similar to the 3400, the TRIBO 3600 provides additional outputs in the form of two independent SPDT relay contacts for alarm use as well as an optional digital output (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP) is available for direct connection to plant network systems (PLC’s etc.) or bag leak detection systems managed by TRIBO.vision software.
The U3800’s main purpose is to provide functionallity for multiple probes networked together to form a unified monitoring system for multiple locations. For example, plants looking to monitor multple collectors simultaneously or multiple compartment baghouses for improved leak detection capabilities will find the TRIBO U3800 useful. Additionally, the unit also allows for a digital connection to a PLC, HMI/SCADA and other plan automation systems. This makes the U3800 ideal for isolated systems as well as integrated networks.
